デフォルト・ウォーターフォールのうち、破綻者自身の証拠金・拠出金とCCP自己拠出金（SITG）を費消してもなお残る損失を、非破綻参加者の清算基金で埋める段階。相互化とも呼ばれ、清算参加者が平時からあらかじめ共同で積み立てておいた資金が充てられる。かつては生存者が損失を上限なく事後分担する方式もあったが、予測不能な負担は連鎖破綻を誘発しかねないため、現代のCCPは相互化の対象にも追加拠出にも上限を設ける設計を採る。

The stage of the CCP default waterfall in which losses that exceed the defaulter's own margin and default-fund contribution, and the CCP's own skin-in-the-game, are absorbed by the default fund contributions of non-defaulting members — also referred to as mutualisation. Because an uncapped, after-the-fact sharing of losses can itself trigger further defaults, modern CCPs cap both the mutualised default-fund layer and any further assessment calls.
